Music is more important in a child's development than many people believe it to be. At 6 months in-utero, a baby's hearing is completely developed and they can hear everything going on in the outside world; this is why it is so important for parents to talk to and sing to their babies before they are even born. Babies connect the voices they hear while in utero to feelings such as love, comfort, and support. Once born, a baby's brain begins to mold to everything they hear and experience, developing until hardening between ages 7-9. This is why it is so crucial to teach music to children before this brain hardening; have you ever thought you have no musical ability or the ever popular "I can't sing"? It is because your ability in music wasn't expanded upon before you reached this brain hardening and your ability is stuck at whatever you ended up with at that age. Teaching music to your child before then can benefit them in their music abilities, as well as their literacy (reading/writing) abilities, memory, discipline, and many more. The following links connect to classroom tested and study based research done on music and its affects on the brain.
