Learning to Write Rhythms!

Second Grade has been practicing saying and reading rhythms since we started the year. Now that we've come back from Christmas, we're learning to write them on our own! It is an exciting time, and the kids are doing a great job! Check out their writing!

First we wrote on dry erase packs to learn how to form the shapes of the rhythms. We learned that they are a colored in d or a colored in p. NOT b or q!

After we learned how to properly write rhythms, we used our Country of the Month, China, to write our own rhythms! Using the Chinese Characters for the words "love / friend / beauty / honor," students arrange the characters in the pattern that they liked the best and wrote their rhythms based on the syllables contained in the words. After writing our own rhythms, we got to play them on instruments! We did this to celebrate Chinese New Year, learning that this lunar year is the year of the rat! Check out our Chinese compositions!

Learning to write rhythms has been so fun! We can't wait to write more!
